Američko udruženje kompozitora, autora i izdavača ASCAP proslavilo je sto godina postojanja i pokrenulo internet stranicu na kojoj je, između ostalog, i popis 100 pjesama koje su svojim autorima donijele najviše tantijema.
American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers osnovano je 1914. s ciljem zaštite autorskih prava profesionalnih glazbenih djelatnika i danas broji oko pola milijuna članova, te se brine za devet milijuna skladbi. U proteklih šest godina svojim su članovima isplatili oko 5 milijardi dolara.
Popis 100 pjesama na prvo mjesto stavlja pjesmu “Happy Birthday to You” Mildred J. Hill i Patty Smith Hill, na drugom je “My Girl” autora Smokeya Robinsona i Ronalda A. Whitea, nakon čega slijede dvije božićne “White Christmas” (Irving Berlin) i “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” (Ralph Blane, Hugh Martin). Petorku zatvara “Wind Beneath My Wings” (Jeff Silbar).
Napomenut ćemo da je ASCAP bilo jedino društvo takve prirode do 1940. godine kada je osnovano konkurentno BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated). Pjesme koje zastupa BMI nisu na popisu.
